
Harland Joined the Air Force in August 1949 and retired in June 1970 as a Master Sargent. When he first went to The United Kingdom in September 1951 He was assigned to HQ 81st M&S group at Bentwaters until October 1952 when he went TDY to 7519th ABS at Shepherds Grove where he was in Commercial Transportation (Travel Agent and Freight Shipper and or the people whe broke up your furniture etc.) Harland left England in August 1954 and his next assignments took him to Sampson AFB; FE Warren; Greece; McGuire; Bitburg & Templehoff, Germany; Nellis; Tuy Hoa,Vietnam; and to Scott AFB for retirement. After retirement he worked 2 ½ years as a letter carrier and clerk for the US Postal Service. He later transferred to Civil Service at Scott AFB working in Commercial Transportation shipping personal effects again for about another 2 ½ years. From there he bid and took the job as Army Transportation Officer, in support of the US Army Aviation and Troop Command, located in St. Louis. After four years Harland took an advancement in a job in logistics in the Command in Transportation Management Office where he remained until he retired in July 1987. He then worked at various jobs for a few days a week. He went back out of retirment in 1993 and worked for the Army contractor in the same Transportation Command until the base closed in 1997. In 1958 while Harland was stationed in Greece he met and married Mary in May, 1958 in Athens Greece at the Catholic Cathedral. He is still married to Mary and they had two twin children, a boy and a girl. He now has one grandson and five granddaughters.
